BIN Project Brahman steers - feed efficiency research

5 April 2024

As part of a long-term collaborative study, 60 Brahman and Droughtmaster steers from the Beef Information Nucleus (BIN) initiative have enjoyed the by-product of all the wet weather we have been having in south-east Queensland this summer - all the luscious green pasture they could ever hope for!

They have completed the paddock feed efficiency phase of the study in conjunction with CSIRO using eGrazor monitoring collars & Ceres Tag accelerometers, and now have moved over to the main QASP site to start the feedlot ration phase using the Vytelle Growsafe system. This will allow for further data collection on feed efficiency, intake and behaviours, with the aim of building a reference population for genomic selection of high performing cattle.

Further information on this high-tech research can be found in this profile on the Australian Brahman Breeders Association website: https://lnkd.in/gPtNCV9x
